Autobahn Streak

2014 R-Nine-T "Autobahn Streak" by Samuel Kao

Autobahn is the German name for motorway: on some of them, in Germany you can ride at unrestricted speeds and when you hear a bike like this coming, well, you are probably able to see just a streak of joy passing by and possibly the grin from the rider. That's why the name of this bike. When the BMW R nineT was launched in 2014, Samuel Kao was among the very first excited builders to customize it and with JSK Moto Co. style, took it to the extremes and created a scrambler named Project Chocolate Slider that we immediately featured on Inazuma cafe. After the Scrambler, Samuel really wanted to make a Café Racer too. Due to the JSK busy schedule, it took a long time, but he finally did it, and is definitely worth the wait. The R nineT was actually designed by BMW with customizations in mind and with the Project Autobahn Streak, JSK tested the concept designing a monocoque shell mount that needs just three connection points to be easlily installed on the motorcycle, just like the a phone case.  The bodywork is made out of fiberglass, a decision taken by Samuel due to the complexity of the lines he wanted and the simplicity he tried to achieve. Given the freedom of shape, Samuel moved the seat forward, making the riding position less aggressive and improving the comfort for the rider. To clean out the front end, JSK created a CNC upper triple tree designed purposely to only accept clip-on handlebars. The side vents are also custom made, to complete the look for the side profile. Samuel wanted to have the signature BMW angel eye headlight for the motorcycle. It was sourced from a car despite the small size for a motorcycle and a custom aluminum vent around the headlight was designed to help dissipate heat and create a futuristic look. The leather seat was handmade by Kingsman Cushion. Three Harmony Fabrication from Taiwan fabricated the metal tail section on JSK specs. Air Runner dealt with the evocative paint job. A selection of state of the art aftermarket parts completed the project. The names involved were: Akrapovic (muffler), Beringer (brake and clucth master cylinders), Earl’s (oil cooler), ENLiNT (rear sets), Driven (clip on handlebars), DK Design (air filter, carbon parts) , Gears Racing (monoshock), Motogadget, RSD, and WRRP.

I nomi coinvolti sono: Akrapovic (scarico), Beringer (pompe freno e frizione), Earl's (radiatore olio), ENLiNT (pedane), Driven (semimanubri), DK Design (filtro aria e parti in carbonio), Gears Racing (monoammortizzatore), Motogadget, RSD e WRRP.

Fiat Topolino Hot Rod by Mikael Göransson

Over half a million Fiat Topolino were made from 1936 to 1955, but not many traded their original inline four 569cc (13BHP) for a 8V Ford 351 Windsor engine (well over 160BHP), 3-speed automatic.

SV650 custom scrambler by Droog

Effective, reliable, even fast and powerful, the SV650 is probably one of the less inspiring bikes to customize. Nevertheless, at Droog Moto they found a way and a style that makes it attractive. The transformation covered the front end conversion, the addition of aluminum solid wheel inserts, custom exhausts, new handmade subframe, custom tracker plate and fender,LED lighting, new offroad handlebar w/ Biltwell grips, electronic speedo, upgraded radiator with custom guard, rat style tank treatment, Metzler Karoo 3 tires and a new bespoke seat.

Bottpower XR1R 1200 on the racetrack

The Bott XR-1, which Inazuma Cafe featured for the first time in 2012 (*), is a sportbike with flattracker aesthetics built around a Buell XB12 donor bike. The bike weights 179 kgs (20 kgs less than a Buell XB12 SS) and has 100 HP with lots of torque. Apart of the top fueltank, it has a secondary fueltank under the rear shock absorber, which allows a total fuel capacity of 11 liters. The XR1 chassis has been designed and built keeping the original Buell XB geometry, so it has the same behavior, improved by the weight reduction. Frame stiffness has been calculated using Finite Element Analysis, and the design has been validated testing the bike on circuits with professional riders. The XR1R is a racing version of this bike, featuring a titanium frame and specific electronics with an EFI Euro4 ECU which allows to use adjustable traction control, launch control, 3 different engine maps and speed limiter to be used in the pit lane of the racetracks. Instead that having the radiator behind the front number plate, in the XR1R the radiator is located in front of the engine for a better cooling performance in racing conditions. The electric starter is removed to reduce the weight by another 8 kilograms, but this makes necessary to use an external starter. In 2017, Travis Newbold rode an XR1R like the one featured in this photoshoot, but a with a steel frame, at the Pike’s Peaks famous hill race, reaching the 4th position overall, and winning in the “Challenge Exhibition Powersport” and “Challenge Motorcycle” categories. Bott is planning to come back to the Pike’s Peak this year, with Rennie Scaysbrook as a rider, one of the few who has stopped the clockwatch under the 10 minutes mark. The Bott XR1 is sold complete or in a kit suitable for an existing Buell XB12.
